Data Sets

The UA College of Engineering Machine Shop supports fabrication, modification, and repair of custom scientific instruments, with state-of-the-art machining and an extensive inventory (stainless steel, aluminum, oxygen-free copper, brass, specialty metals, and plastics).

The UA Office of Information Technology (OIT) manages two primary high-performance computing clusters (UAHPC and CHPC) hosted at the DC BLOX Tier III data center in Birmingham, AL. OIT provides project data storage, licensed/open-source HPC software, a high-bandwidth science network, connectivity to national research networks, and dedicated support personnel.

UA’s High Performance Computing and Data Center (HPC DC) is a 40,000-ft², $96M facility housing a petascale system—the fastest supercomputer in Alabama—supporting computationally intensive research in water, materials, transportation, health, national security, and quantum computing, and enabling researchers to compete for federal and industry funding while fostering workforce development (expected availability: August 2026).
